What would cause my cycles to not regulate?

So for those who don’t know me on here, I’ll give a little background for you.

For one, I’m married. I have IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) as well as an anxiety disorder. I manage my stress levels with daily yoga, a healthy diet, and sometimes medication. We’ve been trying to conceive for quite awhile now, almost a year, with no luck other then a few m/c’s. My last one was Nov.24th 2008. I was 4 weeks. Regardless, my cycles have been in the 40-50 day range (depending on my stress management) but I haven’t had a period since Aug.16th! I missed my period Sept.28th (when it was due, doc ruled it as a funny period) and got pregnant the following month without ever having a period. However, I’m pretty sure I’m ovulating. I feel the same pains, with a few drops of watery blood. Now it’s Dec.16th and nothing has happened yet. I bled for a few hours with my m/c but that was it. My ibs flared with the stress of the loss of the baby and put me back in the hospital. They confirmed the m/c and told me I’d be fine. Now, my doctor told me she wanted me to be put on birth control pills for a few months, but I’ve had nothing but bad experiences with them. It took a year for my periods to come back last time. I don’t have the time to do that, but I’d like to not use fertility drugs. My doctor doesn’t have a clue why my cycles are doing this. I’ve had tests and scans, pap’s, everything and nothing is wrong. She said there’s no reason for my periods to be this irregular. I don’t have pcos, cysts–notta. I was ***** a lot as a child though, so she expects there is scar tissue formed around my fallopian tubes causing my egg to have a hard time traveling through. Which made sense when they were 40-50 days. But now it makes none at all.. She also thought if I lost 15 lbs that I would probably regulate them myself.. so I lost the 15 lbs. But now they’re even further apart. I lost it slowly and healthy so I don’t know what to think.

So basically…

1) Why are my cycles doing this? Any reasons why?

2) What can I do now to regulate them more? without using fertility drugs preferably, but if I have to I will.. I’ve heard bad things about clomid though. Are there any that have the least chance of multiples?

Thanks in advance, I know this was a long one. If you don’t have anything helpful to say, or you just want to whine about how long this is don’t bother wasting your time. It doesn’t help anybody
Thanks Lauren!

ESTELLE

    Honey,
I’m sorry to hear about what has happened to you has a child. Honestly I’m sorry, i don’t know about regulating periods, but i was on 50mg clomid, and the only side effect i had was hot flashes. Though we didn’t get luck w/ the 50, pending a dye test, we’ll start the 100 mg next month. We are seeing a specialist now and she diagnosed me w/ Clinical Hypothyroidism. Hell if i understand what that means! I just wanted to fill u in on my experience w/ clomid. Luv u girl!

    Hey, hun :)
I really think you should talk to your Dr about getting an HSG to check for blocked tubes. I know you’ve been pregnant, but perhaps the scar tissue is affecting something. With Clomid, there is a slight chance of multiples, and it’s about 3-10%. Clomid can sometimes make you ovulate more than one egg, which could result in multiples if more than one egg happens to get fertilized, but chances are you may just ovulate 1 egg. Clomid will pretty much make your cycle 28 days, and keep you regular, and your cycles would be predictable.

I just saw my Dr 2 weeks ago, and he wants to do an HSG, and then start me on Clomid. I ovulate on my own for the most part, but I have about 4-5 anovulatory cycles a year. So even if you think you are ovulating normally, he may still want to put you on it, as it can make you release more than 1 egg, giving the ***** more to target, which ups the chance for pregnancy. There has got to be something other than birth control to regulate your cycle. I’ve heard mixed things about bc and TTC. For some women, they are very fertile when the come off it and are able to get pregnant right away. It sort of gets their cycle in gear. I know I would **** to be on bc when TTC. That would be so frustrating.

I would ask your Dr about other options, tell her you’ve been trying for a year, explain your cycles, and see what she can do for you. I’ll post a link below with some natural remedies to bring AF back. I hear vitex can shorten very long cycles, and make ovulation happen sooner. I wish you all the luck and baby dust in the world, and really hope this straightens out for you very soon. Lots of hugs for you :)
