Is there anyone with experience with severe sleeping problems?

For the past two years ive been struggling with my sleep. There are times when i will be up for up to three days and feeling really dizzy at that point. I was prescribed sleeping medication however I do not like taking it as it has made me gain weight and i believe has interfered with my Type 2 diabetes in that I have elevated blood sugars. Ive tried mental health counseling and Cognitive Therapy and stress management. At this point Im not under any stress besides the stress im having because of not sleeping. I dont take naps during the day and Ive tried the whole routine of winding down before bed, drinking herbal teas or taking a warm shower before bed. Turning off the computer and either putting some light music on or just laying in my bed in the dark.

Good for you for not wanting to go the sleep medication route. I would say try melatonin. Use it to reset your biological clock. It will help regulate you circadian rhythm. Take it for maybe two weeks every night, at the exact same night. It natural and non-addictive and will not make you gain weight. Make sure your room is dark at night. Set your alarm to the same time every day, and force yourself to get up. I find a light box in the morning is helpful as well. Read up on what a lightbox can do and about melatonin and decide for yourself. Good luck!
